Friday Fight Night is a focused Sport MMA session for people who want to build skill, fitness, and composure in a supportive dojo. It is a practical place to train with purpose, whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or looking for a consistent challenge.
What is Friday Fight Night?
Sport MMA brings together throws, grappling, striking, functional fitness, and controlled sparring. At Vanguard Self-Defense Academy, Friday Fight Night runs bi-weekly on Fridays, 7:00–8:15 PM (running since 25 September 2026). It is an established recurring session, with clear instruction and room to learn at your own pace.
The session is organized into two categories: Kids & Teens ages 10–14 and Adults ages 15+. Beginners need no prior experience. You do not need to arrive already fit, fearless, or familiar with every movement. You need to be ready to listen, practise, and work with control.
The goal is not to make training feel dangerous. The goal is to make each student more capable.
What to expect your first time
Your first Friday Fight Night starts with an introduction to the room, the instructor, and the standards that keep training safe. You will learn how the session is organized before moving into a progressive warm-up and technical practice.
You can expect a mix of movement, partner drills, and controlled repetitions. Throws and grappling are taught with attention to balance and safe falling. Striking is practised with clear boundaries. Functional fitness supports the work rather than taking over the class. When controlled sparring is part of the session, the emphasis stays on timing, awareness, and composure.
[You do not have to prove anything in your first session.]
Sport MMA for beginners
Beginners often wonder whether a Sport MMA session will move too quickly. Good coaching makes space for a first step. The pace is purposeful, but the instruction is structured so a new student can understand the movement before adding pressure or speed.
You will be encouraged to ask questions, communicate with your partner, and adjust when something is new. Training should be challenging without becoming chaotic. The standard is simple: protect your partner, pay attention, and improve one repetition at a time.
How Friday Fight Night fits the weekly schedule
Friday is part of a wider training rhythm at Vanguard. Tuesday features Self-Defense Techniques from 6:00–9:00 PM. Thursday features Sport MMA — Throws, Grappling, Striking from 6:00–9:00 PM. A new weekly Monday Sport MMA class starts in January 2027; it is upcoming, not running yet.
Friday Fight Night adds a focused bi-weekly session without changing the purpose of the other classes. You can choose the training window that fits your week and build consistency over time.
Adults: practical training with a clear standard
For adults, Friday Fight Night is a chance to combine skill development and functional fitness in a serious but welcoming room. The work develops balance, timing, grip, movement, and decision-making while keeping the training controlled.
This is Chesterville martial arts with a practical, no-ego approach. You can train hard without needing to perform toughness. The room is built for adults who want a disciplined outlet, useful movement, and a community that takes progress seriously.

Kids & Teens: skill, confidence, and control
Students ages 10–14 can use Sport MMA to build coordination, focus, and confidence through structured practice. The emphasis is on learning how to move, listen, work with a partner, and respond with control.
Parents can learn more about the Kids & Teens program and see how age-guided training supports each student’s experience. The program is designed to be challenging without becoming intimidating, and beginners are welcome.
